LAKE EYRE, BIRDSVILLE
INNAMINCKA AND THE CHANNEL COUNTRY

The
tour leaves from Charleville and over flies the Bulloo River, Cooper
Creek and the Channel Country, Lake Yamma Yamma, the uninhabited town of Betoota and the
Diamantina River to Birdsville on the
edge of the Simpson Desert. At
Birdsville, we lunch in the Green Lizard Bar at the historic Pub, then
take a short walking tour of the town, including the ruins of the Royal
Hotel, the old Inland Mission Hospital and the Visitors Information Centre.
Later in the afternoon we take a drive to the famous Birdsville
Racetrack, the Burke & Wills tree, and the stand of ancient Waddi trees

evening meal will be in the dining room of the historic Birdsville Pub.Choice of fare is from an alcarte menu,
prepared by a qualified Chef from fresh produce. Vegetarian options are avalable. A Continental breakfast is in the Lizard Bar or Dining Room |

Next morning we depart to
overfly Big Red, Eyre Creek, Goyder Lagoon, then via
Kallacoopah Creek to Lake Eyre. Our track then follows the
"Warburton Groove" to the middle of Lake Eyre, and then to
William Creek for lunch. From William Creek, we fly over the
southern parts of Lake Eyre North, then via Cooper Creek, over the
Birdsville Track and numerous oilfields to Innamincka.
At Innamincka, we
visit the Trading Post and John Flynn's restored Nursing Home, before a walk to
the causeway over the Cooper for sunset drinks whilst watching
the abundant bird life. The evening meal and accommodation is at the Innamincka
Hotel. Next morning, after breakfast we depart for a short hop
to the Dig Tree. Here we view the evidence of the harsh and unexpected
conditions faced by the early explorers at the site where Burke and
Wills perished.
Our return to Charleville
takes us via the Jackson Oil Field, Cooper Creek, Bulloo River and the Mulga Lands of south
west Queensland.
